Who is the center of your life?

I am sitting at my desk at church with my mind FULL of thoughts and questions about life. I don’t know about you, but I spend a lot of time pondering and trying to figure out the meaning of life.

Believe me when I say I have spent hours thinking about Afghanistan, Haiti, earthquakes, wildfires, floods, Heatwaves, droughts, tropical storms, COVID, CRT, death, pain, suffering, the Church… trying to make sense of it all.

So often our own thoughts and conclusions leave us dissatisfied and more perplexed. We are like King Solomon and his pursuit of wisdom…

“All things are full of weariness; a man cannot utter it; the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.” Ecclesiastes 1:8

also

“My son, beware of anything beyond these. Of making many books there is no end, and much study is a weariness of the flesh.” Ecclesiastes 12:12

Amen!

Trying to “figure it all out” is a wearisome task. Often, we get stuck in the middle of our thoughts when we put “us” as the central figure of life’s story. We get tired and discouraged when life is about working out for us. We get angry and filled with doubt when we forget that we are not ultimate.

King Solomon, concludes his rather startling book about life by saying:

“The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.” Ecclesiastes 12:13

It boils down to this…Center your life around GOD. Make him central in your thoughts, life, decisions, passions and pursuits. Find pleasure in him. Find satisfaction in him. Find joy in him! Pursue him more than you pursue answers to life’s conundrums.

We all have one purpose and that is to Know Him! And in knowing Him intimately we will find joy and satisfaction…no matter the circumstances.
